Rome is a Bloodbath remix

I was listening to some guitar pieces by Brian Ferneyhough that reminded me of this track by Rome is a Bloodbath: "Sunday, isolated" (4.9mb). I'm not equating myself with Ferneyhough, I just noticed some similarities in the snap pizzicato parts. This track is played entirely on a detuned acoustic guitar. You could call it the parasitic twin to "Sunday, ambiance" (see March 17) or vice versa. For the most part, I improvised the structure of each on one guitar then built up the track subsequently.

After listening to this again, I started experimenting with some of the parts on my laptop. I cut the track into four sections and performed some real-time granular synthesis on those pieces. This yielded some interesting moments, so I collaged the sounds back together in Pro Tools and came up with a kind of remix: "Sunday, isolated remix" (5.7mb). The whole thing was conceived and completed in a short time. I didn't allow myself to listen too closely or too many times just so I wouldn't get bogged down tinkering with it endlessly.
