Sinusoidal Waves
Greg Headley - Sine Wave Sweep.mp3 (2.9mb)
The source for this piece was a 10 second sine wave sweep from 5 Hz to 20 kHz (courtesy of
Make a Testtone). The sweep was processed in real-time and there are no edits. It has a quaint quality that reminds me of electronic music from the 1960s. I didn't really intend that, I was just messing around. I've often used sweeps when playing live. I burn a CD with sweeps of varying length, from 3 seconds to 3 minutes, then play them and use high frequency mixer feedback to modulate the sweep. It creates a kind of pseudo ring modulation and lots of strange whooping sounds when certain frequencies cross over.
