Last year I was thinking about making some music using drum fills from a handful of metal drummers (of the double-kick drum variety) and maybe a dash of
Neil Peart to mix it up. I grabbed some samples, but never did anything more with it. I was recently listening to
Slayer and remembered the idea.
Dave Lombardo (formerly, and maybe again now, the drummer in Slayer) is unquestionably the master of the double-kick. I made this track using one particulary multi-limbed sounding fill by Dave. I wouldn't be surprised if he could actually play like this. I've never seen Slayer live, but I saw Fantomas (with Dave on the skins) last year. He was insanely good and drenched in sweat about three minutes into the set.
